The Core Value of the Soft-Start Function in SCR controllers

Date: 2026.11.08 Views: 16

SCR controllers utilize internal thyristor modules and employ phase-angle control (adjusting the conduction angle) or zero-crossing control (adjusting the on-off cycle) techniques to precisely regulate output AC voltage and power. During startup, the system uses a microprocessor to gradually increase the conduction angle from zero, causing the output voltage to ramp up smoothly (soft start). This effectively suppresses cold-state sudden surge currents and buffers mechanical and thermal stresses.

The soft-start function in SCR controllers is primarily designed to suppress massive inrush currents at the moment of power-on (such as overcurrent tripping caused by extremely low cold-state resistance in silicon carbide rods or transformer saturation). It also provides thermal and mechanical stress buffering for heating elements or motor loads, preventing equipment damage from sudden heating or mechanical shock while protecting grid stability. It is widely applied in industrial electric heating systems (such as high-temperature silicon carbide rod furnaces and vacuum furnaces), transformers and inductive loads, and three-phase AC motor soft starting (reducing water hammer effects and mechanical shocks).
